This iconic holy temple complex adorns the summit of the Pavagadh hill and is a famous pilgrimage centre. The picturesque views surrounding the temple site is simply breath taking and should visited by everyone, even if you are not a religious person. Dating back to as far as 10th or 11th century and located amidst the incredibly enchanting Champaner – Pavagadh archaeological park. Deemed for being one of the most crucial Shaktipeeths of India the most fun part about visiting this temple is the rope-way ride namely Udankhatola that transfers you to the temple entrance and is an experience in itself. Consisting of massive fortifications and open chowk complete with 2 sacrificial altars and decorated with an array of colourful lights especially during the festival season.

The temple enshrines the idol of Kalika Mata, only the head, the mukhwato, painted in red in the inner sanctum. Full idols of Mahakali and the yantras of Bahuchara are also worshipped here.

Pavagadh is a hill station located in Panchamahal district 46 km from Vadodara. Pavagadh is very famous for Mahakali Temple drawing thousands of pilgrims every day. Mahakali Temple is also known as Kalika Mata Temple. Champaner-Pavagadh-Archaeological is inscribed as World heritage site by UNESCO.

Two Aartis are performed at Mahakali Temple every day.

Morning Aarti Timings – 5:00 AM

Evening Aarti Timings – 6:30 PM

Pavagadh Rope-way Details

Pavagadh Rope-way Station which is also known as Udankhatola giving an experience of Khushiyon Bhari Udaan is located on Pavagadh hill near Maachi haveli. Mahakali temple is at a height of 800 metres. If you are energetic enough to climb 2000 steps then its good or you can opt for Rope-way. For rope-way reach Maachi where you can get rope-way facilities. Buy ticket for rope-way and then reach near the temple. Cable car will drop you at a certain height. From there you still need to climb 250 more steps to reach the temple. Pavagadh Ropeway has a capacity to carry 400 people in 1 hour.

Recently, provision has been passed to improve the capacity of cable car and to lead it further near the temple so you need to walk less.

Rope-way Timings

The rope-way operates from morning 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The last return cable car is at 7:30 PM.

It just takes about 6 minutes to reach by rope-way. The rope-way is available all days of the week.

A 5 km walk along a jungle footpath otherwise a cable car ride Udankhatola are the only options to get to the temple. The temple is open for long hours to accommodate pilgrims for a visit. Visit the ancient temple said to grant divine blessings.
