The Social Media Companies Urged the US Right Groups to Act Against Election Disinformation

Social Media Companies like Instagram and Facebook including others have urged the US Right Groups to take necessary actions against Election Disinformation.

Social media companies like Facebook, Instagram, and Google should take strong action against false information and must mitigate the effect of misinformation. Including Donald Trump’s “Big Lie” and also it seems that his 2020 defeat was the result of fraud during the midterm congressional election, said to the Right Group on Thursday.

After the 2020 presidential race was won by US Democratic president Joe Biden, Social media platforms backed away from policies designed to fight election disinformation. More than 100 advocacy groups led by a common cause, said the letter sent to social media executives.

A letter sent to Chief executives can be read as “High profile disinformation spreaders and other bad actors are continuing to use social media platforms to disseminate messages that undermine trust in the election,” the letter was endorsed and signed by more than 100 groups led by Common Cause.

They said in the letter “Candidates are using the big lie as a platform plank to pre-emptively declare voter fraud to dispute the results of the 2022 election,” also added, “This is damaging American democracy by undermining faith in the integrity of our election.”

The letter was also sent to the CEOs of all the giant social media companies like Instagram, Facebook, Google, and Snap and urged them to take steps, including prioritizing fact-checking and providing real-time access to data to external researchers and watchdogs.
