Ways that can increase funding opportunities for NGOs

Inspiring and encouraging people to make donations is not easy. It requires proper planning of human resources and effective use of marketing tools. As opposed to earlier times, funding opportunities for NGOs now have a broader scope, which means that one can easily raise funds for new NGOs by putting to practice simple techniques that are efficient and efficacious. Some of them include:

Reveal the human side to your mission: It is not enough to list statistics detailing about the number or percentage of children that go to bed without food routinely. Instead, pen down a heartfelt story about the kids that are forced to beg for food on the streets. Inform your readers about the daily hardships they face and the nature of exploitation they are subject to in their everyday lives. Support your story with images and videos that tug at the hearts of those who see and hear. Explain how even a bit of donation from their end can go a long way in improving the lives of the people dependent on monetary and social support.

Link with organisations for funds: There are organisations like AsianNGO who offer news on grants as soon as they are released. Platforms like that are formed with the aim to help NGOs in different countries know when a grant for their mission is available. This way, the NGO can save time and apply to only those grantors who will be willing to invest in their NGOs. However, NGOs need to register as members and ensure they comply with the standards of the platform. Donor seeking NGOs have to make their mission visible with enough clarity for the donors to see and recognise their efforts, thus, lending due consideration to their need for regular inflow of funds.

Tie up with local donors: Check for the possible donors and socially aware people living in the vicinity of the NGO you are operating. If needed, adopt a broader outlook and look for corporate and individual donors in the locality you wish to serve. Get in touch with business houses interested in shouldering the concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) or making donations towards causes they identify with. Fix an appointment with these people, talk to them or email the purpose of your consequent visit. Explain your mission to them and how grants made by them would upgrade the lives of the section of people you serve in addition to their augmenting their public image. Go local! Find people who are inclined to donate in kind like giving away old clothes, leftover food, etc. Tie up with these establishments and convince them on how the corporate-social association would uplift their brand position among their customers.

Marketing your achievements: Why limit the use of marketing strategies for corporate benefits only when it can serve the same purpose for your NGOs too? It is important that you market your recent successes to increase awareness about your presence while inspiring more people to come forward and donate generously. Apart from donations, it may garner you more supporters and volunteers towards support for your causes.

In the end, remember, while each approach may come with its own set of advantages and disadvantages, a planned mix and match of these methods will ensure continuous donations and generous contributions towards your NGO’s mission and vision.
