Kayaking is more and more popular. These easy-to-launch, fast and maneuverable boats allow for great trips without incurring huge expenses. But how to choose your
best fishing kayak under 1000 ? What are the points to check before taking the plunge and investing?
As kayak fishing develops, more and more adapted models are flourishing among manufacturers. Discovery of this booming market.
Sit on top of preference
For safety, a sea kayak will have to be unsinkable. With a fully waterproof twin hull, he has to face the waves safely. We talk about kayaking 'sit on top' on which we sit (and not of which we are inside). They are made of rotomolded polyethylene, a very strong material that can be pulled on sand without risk and highly resistant to impact.
But there are also kayaks in which one sits inside ('sit in') and whose buoyancy is ensured by compartments watertight hatch in which one is introduced. These kayaks have the advantage of keeping the fisherman dry.
Think also of the comfort of the seat. A fishing party often lasts a long time. We must therefore favor kayaks with comfortable seats
Which model to choose?
A kayak is chosen according to its use. It will not be the same size for a small person as for a more wrapped fisherman. The hull should not have the same volume. Also think that the fisherman likes the material. It is common to carry with you more than ten kilos of accessory to go fishing (electronic equipment, drums, canes, lures, food ...)
If the kayaks with tight lines, narrow enough are recognized for a better glide, we must not forget that most of the time of fishing, happens at the drifting stop. The kayak must be stable and comfortable during these phases.
Very wide, a kayak can even allow standing fishing (by calm sea). We will then take a model with a flat surface in front of the seat to find his balance, well on his feet.
Question length, this one will get rid of your size, but keep in mind that a sea kayak must be more than 3.50 m to have the right to sail more than 300 m from the coast. A short kayak will be more maneuvering that is why we find them on the rivers, but a longer model better supports the sea, the waves and the swell.
Which propulsion system?
Historically, the kayak is handled with a paddle. Kayaking enthusiasts who have come to practice fishing always prefer this mode of propulsion. But for 10 years, kayaks 'pedal' appeared. They make the happiness of the sinners who find here an intuitive propulsion, effective and especially which leaves them the free hands. It's ideal when you want to hold a fishing rod !
The propulsion is handled with the feet (one is often more beefy legs than arms). There are two types of propulsion: propellers and blades (invented by Hobie). For propellers, we pedal as on a bike to rotate it (forwards or backwards), with the blades, we operate a step movement (front-rear) with an inverter (joystick) to change the direction of direction. This type of kayak is equipped with a saffron that is operated with a joystick.
Both systems have identical power and allow speeds in the range of 5 to 6 km / h or more in calm sea. At the time of the drift, during the fishing phase, the propulsion with the feet makes it possible to compensate the wind or the current and to keep its kayak exactly on the fishing zone.
But beware, if your kayak is equipped with pedals, you will always have the obligation to have a paddle with you, it is regulatory.
How to equip your kayak
Today, manufacturers offer models already designed for fishing with many accessories or solutions to adapt them to the kayak (mounting rail, net, holding elastic, chests ...).
One can then choose a kayak 'ready to fish' or prefer a kayak 'naked' that one comes complete with accessories of one's choice. The kayak fisherman likes to arrange his boat according to his habits:
keep his scissors, his knife, his lures at hand ... In kayak, it will also take into account the possibility that the craft turns around. We moor all his equipment. The rods for example, will remain connected to the boat with a leach. Do not forget also to provide launching wheels to facilitate the roll of the kayak once on the ground.
