HIGHLIGHTS
- iOS 16's Rapid Security Response system installed security patches removed
- Rapid Security Response update would be taken away with certain steps
- People would be able to shut down the updates by following certain steps
The document does not provide any examples of why people would have to uninstall one of the patches, leaving behind their phone which was open to the vulnerability it protects against. Therefore, it would be easy to imagine a few of special circumstances where the feature may be helpful, incase if anyone would messes up with some special work-related software or management tools. Otherwise, it’s one of those features that the majority of individuals would never use unless they need a really specific reason and totally understand what they were doing just like the new extreme Lockdown Mode, that would be included in order to safeguard users from “highly sophisticated” targeted cyberattacks.
Rapid Security Response has been turned on by default, although people would be able to shut down the updates by going towards Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates and toggling “Security Responses and System Files.” If people would do so then they would need to look forward to full iOS updates to induce the security patches.
The system has been also coming back to macOS in Ventura, that has not been formally released so far. Well, till now Apple’s support documents for its desktop OS do not mention whether people would be able to roll back those updates till now.
