An SQL Profiler is a tools that provides a user interface to the SQL trace utility. This tool is used to recreating, tracing, troubleshooting problems in SQL Server. It provides ability you to monitors everything that are going on in SQL Server instance. SQL Profiler also provides the ability to monitor the regular user activities and transaction and also monitor the lock and deadlocks and system error. You can also performs the proactive maintenance on your SQL Server instance to checks which SQL query performance are poor. You can modified that query to fast processing by using SQL profiler. SQL Profiler is a standalone tool which are install when SQL server is installed.
Create SQL Profiler in SQL Server:
First Open SQL Profiler on your Computer System.
Then open the Tools Menu from Menu Bar and Select SQL Server Profiler.
Give a name for your profiler then click OK.
Use of SQL Profiler:
Once if you create your Profiler then open Profiler here a authentication form is shown as below. Here you need to connect the analysis service instance or a database engine. Here you should enter the instance name, authentication type and credential,
When once connection is established then a new form window is open as shown in below, in that form there are two tabs: General tab and Event selection.
In the first tab General you should enter the Trace name, Trace Provider name, Trace Provider Type and a optional selection i.e. Use the Template. By default Standard is selected in Template.
In the other tabs i.e. Event Selection, you selects all the events based on your need that you want to include in Trace. If you select a Template in General tab then you can edit the event selection like shown in below screenshot.
