
Kiwi Farm Blocked Cloudflare due to an 'immediate threat to human life'

Kiwi Farms, an online forum which was known for hateful content. Within the post of Cloudflare’s blog, the company has mentioned that Kiwi Farms had posted an “immediate threat to human life,” which cited an increase of “targeted threats” over the past 2 days.

Concerns regarding Kiwi Farms grew when transgender YouTuber and Twitch streamer, Clara Sorrenti (Keffals) was targeted by a dangerous harassment campaign by users from the positioning. Last month, the Kiwi Farms users have waged a swatting attack against Sorrenti, otherwise called the act of providing a false tip to police that someone’s designing on completing a violent crime, which would lead to swarming the victim’s home.
Sorrenti later went into hiding and began a #DropKiwifarms campaign that urged Cloudflare to prevent serving the Kiwi Farms. Well, users across the Twitter had shared the hashtag along with some revealing the harassment that they have experienced at the hand of Kiwi Farms’ users.
Initially, Cloudflare had resisted to drop Kiwi Farms which had mentioned that it would be “an abuse of power” to do so. Last week in an update which was posted on its website, Cloudflare has outlined its policies on abusive content, has laid out an argument for maintaining service without explicity mentioning Kiwi Farms.
In its newer update, Cloudflare cites an “unprecedented emergency” as justifying both the takedown and also the service’s modification of heart. Notably, Cloudflare had not given hosting for Kiwi Farms’ website, however given security services that a lot of saw as instrumental to keeping the site online.
In the update, Cloudflare had claimed that it didn’t block the site because of the social media campaign that would pleaded with the service to drop Kiwi Farms as a client. Other than this, the post mentions that the decision was based on an uptick in an aggressive activity on the platform. Still, Cloudflare had mentioned that it was “uncomfortable” with its decision to banish the site, and believed that its action “may have additional heightened the emergency.”
