The CEO Robin Li claimed that Baidu EV Firm Jidu Auto will be Ahead of Tesla
As per Baidu chief executive Robin Li, Baidu's electrical vehicle (EV) firm Jidu Auto would be one-generation ahead of Tesla in terms of autonomous driving technologies. He added 'Our understanding of good vehicles was that being electrical would be the semi-final whereas being intelligent would be the final.'
HIGHLIGHTS
- Jidu had aimed to be capable of delivering 800,000 of its 'robot' cars in 2028
- The concept car has no door handles and would be controlled via voice recognition
- Baidu got permit to use the first fully driverless robotaxi services on open roads
Well, Jidu had aimed to be capable of delivering 800,000 of its 'robot' cars in 2028, Jidu chief executive Joe Xia Yiping has mentioned in his statement. Along with this, Jidu had also planned to deliver its second model for production in 2024.
Jidu had disclosed its first 'robot' concept car that would have no door handles and may be totally controlled via voice recognition, in June, with the planning to have a mass production of the model in 2023.
Besides equipping the car with autonomous driving software technology which was powered by Baidu, Jidu's 'robot' vehicles would be having two lidars and 12 cameras. Lidars were considered as detection systems, like radars, which would use pulsed laser light rather than the radio waves.
It has been claimed that Tesla doesn't use lidar censors.
The plan of Baidu's EV-making comes as tech companies around the world have been racing to develop good cars once Tesla had achieved the success in commercializing EVs.
On Monday, Baidu has mentioned that it has obtained permits to use the first fully driverless robotaxi services on open roads in two of the Chinese cities.
Well, the search engine giant has mentioned that the allowance which was awarded by the southwestern municipality of Chongqing and the central city of Wuhan has marked a 'turning point' in China's policy-making towards automated driving.
As per the Wei Dong, the chief safety operation officer of Baidu’s Intelligent Driving Group, 'these permits would have deep significance for the industry.” Mr. Dong added “If we predict of the exploration of space, this moment would be adequate to landing on the moon.'
Initially, Baidu would deploy a batch of five fee-charging robotaxis in every city, where they would be allowed to work in selected areas from 9am to 5pm in the city Wuhan and 9:30am to 4:30pm in Chongqing. Well, the service areas would span around 30 square km in Chongqing's Yongchuan District and 13 square km in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone.
