WHY IN NEWS
The Hubble Space Telescope offers scientists with stunning photographs of the universe that they may use to further their research. Another stunningly magnificent image was just provided by the telescope. This time, it recorded the NGC 3318 galaxy, which is located around 115 million light-years distant from Earth in the constellation Vela. The European Space Agency (ESA) posted the photograph to its official Instagram account. 'Vela was formerly part of a much bigger constellation, called as Argo Navis after the famous ship Argo from Greek mythology,' ESA said, adding that 'the spiral arms of the galaxy were lazily draped across in the picture.'

'This ungainly constellation, on the other hand, proved to be impractically enormous.' Argo Navis was divided into three parts: Carnina, Puppis, and Vela, each named for a different part of the Argo. The outer margins of NGC 3318 nearly resemble a ship's sails flowing in a gentle breeze, as befits a galaxy in a nautically themed constellation. Despite its serene façade, NGC 3318 has been the location of a stunningly 'violent astronomical phenomena,' according to the description. In the year 2000, an amateur astronomer discovered the massive supernova. The initial supernova must have happened in or around 1885 due to the distance between NGC 3318 and Earth. This was also the year that the first supernova ever discovered in our neighbouring galaxy, Andromeda, was observed by 19th-century astronomers.

The Instagram image was liked by almost 7,000 individuals within a few hours after it was uploaded. NASA, too, had published the identical photograph on Instagram a few days previously. The item was captioned 'Set sail on a cosmic sailboat' by the space agency. NASA released a picture of a pair of supposedly colliding galaxies acquired by the Hubble telescope a few weeks ago. The galaxies were 215 million light-years distant from Earth, in the constellation Pisces. They looked to collide, but NASA said they were far apart and dubbed it a 'circumstance of perspective.' NASA and the European Space Agency collaborated on Hubble. Since its inception in April 1990, the telescope has captured photos of stars rising from blazing dust clouds, supernova remnants, and has aided scientists in revealing some of space's darkest mysteries. The James Webb Space Telescope, which was just launched, will shortly supersede it.
