Microsoft will immediately stop distributing Windows 11 SE to device manufacturers. The OS will continue to receive updates and support, including security updates, until next October 1, 2026. The current devices on Windows 11 SE will continue operating till that day.
Highlights:
- Microsoft stops Windows 11 SE distribution now.
- Support for Windows 11 SE ends October 1, 2026.
- Existing Windows 11 SE devices operate until support ends.
- Schools using Windows 11 SE must migrate devices before October 2026.
- Security updates for Windows 11 SE will not be provided after October 2026.
Microsoft has shut down the Windows 11 SE. The company will not supply this particular version on new education devices anymore. On October 1, 2026, all technical support and essential security updates to the Windows 11 SE will cease to exist. Until that deadline devices can still be put to use.
All the schools and institutions that use Windows 11 SE will have to organize their phase-out of this operating system. Windows Security updates will also stop as of October 2026 on the devices running Windows 11 SE. Such absence of support can create risks of further usage.
According to Microsoft, the longer period will give enough time to organizations involved. Institutions need to stock their Windows 11 SE computers as well as align migration plans. It is imperative to make the transition to assisted Windows versions prior to the deadline, which is October 2026.
