European Union could bring a law on Artificial Intelligence with the agreement, says EU tech regulator chief Vestager. The foundation of the agreement has not yet been prepared and Lawyers have claimed that this law will take a few years for it to be implemented.

This year, European Union is likely to bring a political agreement that will reveal the way for the world’s first major artificial intelligence (AI) law, said EU tech regulation chief Margrethe Vestager on Monday.
During a press conference in the meeting of a group of seven digital ministers in Takasaki, Japan, Vestager revealed the EU AI Act was pro-innovation since it finds ways to minimize the risk of social damages from advanced technologies.
Rule makers around the world have been trying to equate the situation where governments could develop “guardrails” on developing artificial intelligence without stifling innovation.
EU Tech Chief Said “The reason why we have these guardrails for high-risk use cases is that cleaning up… after a misuse by AI would be so much more expensive and damaging than the use case of AI in itself.”
When the news has been circulated all around the world, the lawyers said it will take a few years for it to be implemented. Here Vestager said businesses could start considering the implication of the new legislation.
“There was no reason to hesitate and to wait for the legislation to be passed to accelerate the necessary discussions to provide the changes in all the systems where AI will have an enormous influence,” Vestager said.
While the research and development in the field of artificial intelligence have been at full potential in recent years and recent examples like chatGPT have led to a scramble by lawmakers to find ways to cheque any uncontrolled growth.
“Now when everyone has AI at their fingertips… there’s a need for us to show the political leadership to make sure that one can safely use AI and again all the amazing possibilities of improvement in productivity and better services,” said Vestager in an interview.
