EU Antitrust Chief believes Metaverse Competition needs Examination
The metaverse, which consists of Internet-accessible shared virtual worlds, will be the subsequent virtual marketplace to be under legislative examination, said EU antitrust commissioner Margrethe Vestager on Thursday.
When Facebook renamed itself to Meta Platforms two years ago to represent its investment in the new industry as the replacement for the mobile internet, the metaverse has become more apparent.
This action has consequently raised worries about Meta's potential domination. Microsoft and Alphabet's Google also are working on creative machine learning, the firm's next bright spot.
" It's already time to explore what robust rivalry would seem like in the metaverse," Vestager said at a Keystone Strategy-hosted seminar. Vestager questioned if the presence of alternative digital worlds and linguistic AI models, such as ChatGPT, would alter the equation.
"Do we require further work on something new? Clearly, we have begun this task "She stated,
She stated that administrative monitoring of digital marketplaces has increased globally over the past three years.
"Now there is a much broader political discussion over the necessity for attentive attention to digital marketplaces. I believe that all jurisdictions are progressing in some fashion "Vestager added. She stated that certain antitrust enforcers were more progressive than others.
"We are travelling at varying rates. We would not receive the same legal structure. And this might not be a terrible thing. Because of this, we will be able to refine our toolkits through the process of reciprocal learning "Vestager remarked.
