Apple, a major player in technology, is developing its MicroLED screens for use in products like the iPhone and Apple Watch. The revolutionary displays are anticipated to begin appearing on devices in the upcoming year, as per Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, after almost five years of research and development, according to The Verge.
The tech firm is already using panels created and made by a wide range of companies. For instance, according to reports, Samsung, LG, and BOE produce OLED screens for the iPhone 14 variants.
Samsung, LG, Japan Display Inc., Sharp Corp., and BOE Technology Group Co., two longtime significant suppliers that annually produce millions of display panels for iPads, Watches, iPhones, and Macs, will be impacted by this.
According to Bloomberg, Wei Chen, a seasoned professional in the business, has been given the responsibility of leading Apple's display technology group project, which is part of Johny Srouji's Hardware Technologies division. the new Watch Ultra 2022 series with dark mode activated.
Gurman added that perhaps the Apple Watch is anticipated to receive the company's MicroLED panels shortly, substituting the OLED ones it now has. The business is reportedly aiming to add MicroLED hardware to its Watch Ultra with a bigger screen next year, according to a story from earlier this month.
As opposed to the normal generation of gadgets with AMOLED-based screens, it is claimed that the microLED screen is much more energy-efficient and guarantees that the information, whether it be texts or images, emerges vibrantly and allows more colours.
The 2024 Watch Ultra may use a MicroLED panel rather than an OLED, according to Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, who previously predicted a decline in Apple Watch sales in 2023 owing to a 'lack of relevant spec update.'
