Late on Friday, Elon Musk posted a poll on Twitter asking users to decide whether to allow the former US President Donald Trump to reactivate his account. According to early results, roughly 60% of respondents agreed. The Latin proverb 'Vox Populi, Vox Dei,' which roughly translates to 'the voice of the people is the voice of God,' was tweeted by Musk. The voting was run for 24 hours.
In May, Musk, the business's new owner, announced that he would reverse Twitter's ban on Trump, whose account had been suspended since the attack on the US Capitol last year.
According to Musk, Twitter has reinstated several controversial accounts that had been suspended or blocked, including the satirical website Babylon Bee and comedian Kathy Griffin. Musk also asserted that Trump's account will likely not be returned. In light of the substantial restructuring the company is facing, which may result in significant layoffs, Musk has made the decision to solicit opinions from Twitter users on who they think should be on the platform.
In a memo to Twitter's remaining staff on Friday, which Reuters was able to view, Musk asked that people who write software code report to the 10th floor of the company's headquarters in San Francisco by early afternoon. The businessman said, 'If possible, I would like for you to fly to SF to be present in person,' in a following email.
Additionally, he declared that he would stay at the workplace until after midnight and leave early on Saturday. He requested from staff employees up to 10 screenshots of the most crucial lines of code, along with a summary of what their software code had 'achieved' over the previous six months. Musk asked for Friday's engineers to report at 2 p.m. in one of the emails. Short technical interviews 'that allow me to better grasp the Twitter tech stack' would be conducted, he stated.
The emails appeared a day after it was believed that hundreds of Twitter employees had made the difficult decision to leave the struggling social media startup. The exodus amplifies the change and upheaval that Musk's first three weeks as the owner ofof Twitter have experienced.
