Vikram-S, India's First Private Rocket, Will Launch Next Week
In a momentous breakthrough, Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace is prepared to launch its first rocket mission this month from the Sriharikota launchpad of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). The rocket, called Vikram-S, will mark the nation's first space launch vehicle that is wholly owned and operated by a private firm.
Since the Modi administration allowed private business participation in the space sector in June 2020, this will be the first launch of its kind. Skyroot's first rocket launch mission is known as Prarambh (Beginning).
The mission's launch window is from November 12 until November 16. Depending on the weather patterns during the given launch window, the precise date of the launch mission will be determined.
In a statement, Skyroot said that it was 'thrilled to announce Prarambh,' its first launch mission and the first for the Indian private space sector. The launch window is set to take place between November 12 and 16, 22.
India's most well-funded private space firm is Skyroot Aerospace, which has raised $68 million to far. It was one of the first businesses to successfully test fully 3D-printed rocket engines locally in November of last year.
According to Naga Bharath Daka, Chief Operating Officer of Skyroot Aerospace, 'The Vikram-S rocket is a single-stage sub-orbital launch vehicle that would transport three client payloads and help test and validate the majority of the technology in the Vikram series of space launch vehicles.'
According to Mr. Chandana, ISRO and IN-crucial SPACe's assistance was the only reason Skyroot was able to construct and complete the Vikram-S rocket mission in such a short amount of time. Skyroot's launch vehicles are called 'Vikram' in honour of Vikram Sarabhai, a well-known physicist and the father of India's space programme.
Skyroot aims to lower entry barriers for affordable satellite launch services and spaceflight by extending its objective to make spaceflights reliable, regular, and accessible for everyone.
