Mahindra & Mahindra Partner Volkswagen exploring the use of Modular Electric Drive Matrix Components

Volkswagen, partner of Mahindra & Mahindra partner to explore the use of Modular Electric Drive Matrix Components. The platform is allowing car manufacturing companies to build a quick and cost-effective portfolio of electrified vehicles.

Volkswagen and Mahindra Company have signed a pact to explore the use of modular electric drive matrix (MEB) components for the latter’s new ‘Born Electric Platform’ and will work together to innovate the idea of electrification in the car manufacturing.

Mahindra & Mahindra has the intention to equip its Born Electric Platform with MEB electric components such as electric motors, battery systems, components, and battery cells, M&M Company has said in a post released on Thursday. The company further said the binding supply contract is planned to be conducted by the end of 2022.

The well-known MEB electric platform is allowing car manufacturing companies to build their portfolio of electrified vehicles, quickly and cost-effectively.

An official member of the Volkswagen, a leading International Car making company has said in a statement “Together with Mahindra, we want to contribute significantly to the electrification of India, a huge automotive market with enormous growth potential and high relevance for climate protection,” said Thomas Schmall, Volkswagen Group Board of Management member for Technology and CEO of Volkswagen Group Components.

He added further “That’s crucial for every company in the EV world and the key to competitive solutions for our customers.”

India is among the countries which are the major automotive sector consuming production of cars and its market with about three million vehicles per year, told M&M.

At present the Indian market is dominated by diesel and petrol engines and by the end of 2030, the market is going to witness growth to five million vehicles.

The Executive director of M&M, Rajesh Jejurikar said “The complementarity of their extensive technology, innovation, and vertical integration in supply chains, will provide a framework to develop our next generation Born Electric Platform, to be revealed soon in Oxfordshire UK.”

Currently, Volkswagen’s platform MEB electric platform is used by the group brands Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, and SEAT/CUPRA and including its external partners.
