Why in news
WhatsApp has been spotted testing a new Android camera interface in-app. The Flash shortcut appears to have been relocated, and the Switch Camera button has been redesigned. Separately, WhatsApp has been discovered to be testing the ability for group managers to remove certain messages for the whole group. Despite years of discussion and harsh criticism, this looks to provide group leaders more flexibility to curb spam and disinformation that is frequent within ordinary WhatsApp groups.
WhatsApp for Android beta 2.22.1.2 has been launched, according to WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo, including references to the revamped in-app camera. The new experience is not yet available to beta testers, but it is being considered for internal testing. The precise date when the improved camera will be available on WhatsApp has yet to be confirmed. Also, because the information supplied is from internal testing, we may see some modifications in the interface before it is released to the broader public.
In addition to the enhanced camera experience, WABetaInfo has reported that WhatsApp is testing the ability for group managers to remove messages for all members in their groups. This appears to be a development of WhatsApp's current 'Delete for Everyone' option, which was first launched in 2017. The update would effectively assist group administrators in removing postings that spread fake news and disinformation to all members of their groups.
WhatsApp group managers currently have access to capabilities such as the ability to block users from sending messages to their groups and making inappropriate group information modifications. WhatsApp has not yet released any information regarding when the upgrade for group admins will be available. Nonetheless, WABetaInfo claims that it was discovered in WhatsApp for Android beta 2.22.1.1. This means that the expanded deletion functionality for group admins will be available to beta testers at the beginning of next year.
Using the Remove for Everyone tool, WhatsApp users may delete their messages in individual conversations as well as groups for everyone. Group admins, on the other hand, have yet to be able to utilise the capability to remove messages posted by members of their groups for everyone.
