ALAsset is used to get Photo or Video in the Photo Library. It can be describe itself through Key-Value pairs called Properties. ALAsset can report photo/video creation date, its orientation.
If it is a photo whose metadata contains this information and it contains duration if it is a video.
To fetch property value use - valueForProperty: method (the property have names like ALAssetPropertyType).
