13-Jun-2025Link juice is the power or authority passed from one website to another through a hyperlink. One website links to another, passing some of its SEO strength to the linked site, essentially giving the linked site a leg up in organic search. The higher quality site links to another, the more link juice it passes.
For example: You contact another company or website and offer to write a blog post for them (guest blogging), where you include your own link within the content; once they publish your post with your link on their website, you earn a backlink, this entire process is called link building because you actively created the opportunity to place your link.
Now there are two ways through which you can get this juice!!
Link Building: It is the process where you actively try to get other websites to add a link to your website. You usually do this by reaching out to website owners, writing content for other blogs, or offering helpful resources.
For example: You contact another company or website and offer to write a blog post for them (guest blogging), where you include your own link within the content; once they publish your post with your link on their website, you earn a backlink, this entire process is called link building because you actively created the opportunity to place your link.
Link Earning: It is a process where other websites naturally link to your content because they find it helpful, valuable, or informative for their own audience. You don’t request or ask for these links, you earn them by creating high-quality, original, and useful content that people want to reference or share on their own.
For example: You write a detailed guide on "How to Start a Blog in 2025".A blogger writing about "Best Online Careers" finds your guide useful, and links to it in their post. You didn’t ask them; they linked to you naturally because your content was helpful. That’s link earning.
NOTE: However, you can’t place your links on just any website. For instance, adding your link on adult, spams, or low-quality websites is risky because their Domain Authority (DA) is usually low, and many of these sites may be involved in scams or frauds. Getting links from such sites can harm your own website’s reputation and even negatively affect your SEO performance.
Now how does it share SEO value to hyperlinks?
Well, what happen is when a website links to another website, it passes some of its SEO value through that hyperlink. This SEO value is called link juice. The more trusted and authoritative the linking website is, the more link juice it passes. This helps the linked website improve its own ranking on search engines.
Real-life example:
Imagine a popular news website like BBC links to your blog in one of their articles. Since BBC is a highly trusted and authoritative site, when they link to your blog, a strong amount of link juice flows to your website. This can help your blog rank higher on Google because search engines see that a trusted site is recommending your content.
