It is a process that focuses on finding out what exact words or question people are typing into Google when they are searching for information related to their queries. It helps you use the same words your audience is using so that search engines like Google can connect them to your content. 

To be clear, it's not just about the number of words, it's about the right word which fits well with your website.

 

Now why should someone do keyword research if they have a website, how does it help the website perform better? 

 

  1. It helps your audience understand what your business provides.

     
  2. How you are different from your competition.

     
  3. Good keywords will help your site rank higher in the search engine page result (SEPR) and why do this? So, your customer can easily see you without going down in the SEPR or going to another page. 

     
  4. You can see trends; with the right words you can see what people are searching for and not running in circles guessing on what direction I should focus on.

     
  5. Ranking higher also brings in organic traffic (the number of people whose visiting your page off of search engines like google organically without clicking the ads) which is also good for your site, and it decreases your bounce rate (how involved visitors are to a web page)
