Google Hummingbird Algorithm Research

Google stated in September 2013 that it had launched a revolutionary new algorithm dubbed 'Hummingbird' the month before. The name was picked with consideration because the Hummingbird is exceptionally swift and precise.

Searchmetrics examined how the Hummingbird algorithm influenced SERPs, and the results are clear: search result variety has reduced, but semantically related search results appear to be more equal than others.

Semantics + Fast and Accurate

Aside from the fast and precise technological features of the Hummingbird overhaul, there has been a significant shift toward semantic search. Google has vastly improved its comprehension of search queries, including long-tail searches, and thus human intent. The entire question, as well as word group relationships inside search queries, can be increasingly targeted, detected, and evaluated.

Google deems it the most significant algorithm development since 2001, and it has not gone unnoticed in the industry; nonetheless, the immediate shift in search results was barely visible.

Search in Context and Conversation

The Hummingbird enhancements are especially effective in Contextual and Conversational search, two areas that are closely related to fundamental semantics and word relationships.

Google Contextual Search offers results that are increasingly relevant to the query's aim. The results are no longer restricted to the words themselves, but also include an interpretation of the search keywords' intent.

As a Knowledge Graph integration, Google understands the question and gives a response in the search results.

As more searches are conducted using voice commands (conversational search), queries grow more detailed and frequently include entire sentences. The search query is longer and frequently consists of a whole series of inquiries. This type of search query is becoming more prevalent as mobile devices and speech software grow (Smartphones, tablets, Google Glass, SIRI, and so on), and it may also be performed via desktop search (Chrome Apps, etc.).
