Minimalism and Mental Health

To start with, Minimalism in life is something that refers to doing things with ease and gaining peace in return. It could either be a hobby, passion or your job as well, but pursued in a simpler way which do not tend to complications. But that is not the happening in today's scenario. People, in contrary, run after commitments creating mental conundrums in their life. Although, there is an objective, they don’t stop running until their health demands to do so. This is the common mistake done by almost everyone in this world with a mere fact of saving assets for their next generations. Many might have benefitted hugely but are forced to live their lives without peace in mind, which could not be denied. That is where minimalism plays an undeniable role of carving one's lifestyle with pleasure in the heart and tranquility in mind.

Pointing out its effects on mental health, the best one to elicit about is COVID-19, whose impact is not withdrawn till today in sectors of employment and the economy on a global basis. Though it had taught us to connect with surroundings in a way, it also had equally put our mental health into risk and further habituated us to live the same way. Of course, money is the deciding factor for survival of the fittest, but the one that is earned out of willingness and dedication would make you survive among the masters.

Not only in terms of money, Minimalism applies to anything that gives you atmost stress and problems that should definitely be modified not for the sake of society, but just for the sake of yourself, where you become the dominating factor of deciding you're living and not rendering materialism to rule it.

So, how can one enter this type of lifestyle? What should one do to habituate minimalism? Well, the answer is probably hidden in one's own lifestyle. If they can try to unveil it, minimalism need not be infused for sure. First and foremost, thing to do is to ignore the boredom sayings of society like this common phrase ‘become an engineer or a doctor' and so on like that. This is the stage where stress is incorporated and made to grow like a huge tree. Parents might be right in some way, but it’s our sole duty to analyse on what brings happiness to us. Therefore, minimalism starts with doing things on one's own will and should not be instilled.

Once you have analysed what matters to you, the second thing one must follow is to bring out the collective focus onto those passions or goals without external distractions. It could be like exploring deep into something in order to grab its essence to the fullest. Doing this can help you understand the purpose of living your life and, indeed will make you an independent person.

After acquiring predominant focus, the third thing one must do is to pursue a routine of things that pertain to keeping your mood more or less constant. This doesn’t mean anything like eating madly or pursuing a bad habit. The routine should be pursued with self-discipline that encourages you to decipher the ultimate aim of living in peace. Having said this, one must clearly understand that a minimalistic life is all about decluttering that pertains to your physical as well as mental health. Therefore, this phase is essential in terms of adaptation to changes. Pursuance with self-discipline is where you concentrate on attaining mental peace by the gradual removal of materialism that, in turn, prepares your mind to accept its benefits without facing guilt over it.

The last and final one is to pay attention to modifications that result from your acquired habituations. Whether at home or workspace, your habits will render your mind with purposeful thoughts and eventually eliminate negative perspectives of your life once you realize the pros of the modifications happening in your life. Moreover, one might begin to notice things that have been ignored for a long period of time as a result of this. It could either be an object like a book left unread for a few years or something that is unnoticed before, though you reside in that place for more than a decade. This is by virtue of the self-discipline acquired, which explicitly amends your mental and physical health by leveraging your sole decision-making towards experiencing minimalism. Meanwhile, the following gives you a clear picture of what change you have actually undergone, both physically and mentally, which further inculcates in you the encompassments of meaningful living. In addition to that, one might feel positivity and confidence accompanied by these minimalistic engrossments, thus replenishing your chaotic life with meaningful contentments of pursuing minimalism.

On the whole, adapting to minimalism is not an immediate process. It is done with mere deference to factual living and not over-covetousness. Of course, our life serves as a holistic model of society with projected materialism, but it is our sole responsibility to handle emotions verging upon it. With the right focus and adaptations, it is definitely possible to converge towards minimalism, which can either be practiced on your own or with the help of some holistic wellness apps like ‘Life Intelligence’, tending to provide the right guidance and support that motivates you further to merge and cope with minimalism as a part of your confined living. I hope this article instills young minds to follow the path of minimalism, which could help them get rid of mental conundrums as well as the physical distractions in their lives.
