Four Global Recruiting Trends for 2020

Four recruiting trends that will shape the world of work in 2020: Employee experience will become more important, people analytics will play a greater role, positions will be filled internally and the age spectrum within the workforce will widen. 

The recruiting trends are summarized in this years edition of LinkedIns Global Talent Trends Report. They are based on a survey of more than 7,000 HR professionals worldwide. There is also an evaluation of the data points of more than 660 million LinkedIn members.

1. Employee Experience: From buzzword to practice

The term employee experience is thought in the same way as customer experience and describes everything that an employee feels, experiences, or interacts with as part of the company. 77 percent of companies are currently working on improving the employee experience. And the number of positions bearing Employee Experience is 24 times as high as five years ago. It is not only about altruistic motives, but also about a successful personnel policy. Because an investment in the Employee Experience strengthens employee retention (77 percent) and productivity (71 percent), say the HR managers surveyed. Consequently, nine out of ten (96 percent) believe that the topic will continue to gain importance.

2. People Analytics: Data-driven decisions in human resources

Experts have been discussing for years that data analysis will change HR. But for a long time almost exclusively large corporations could afford the infrastructure required for this. That has now changed because more and more third-party tools are available that are easy to use and cover a wide range of applications. At the same time, the number of HR professionals who claim to be familiar with data analysis increased by 242 percent between 2014 and 2019. The future could bring further growth - because 73 percent of the HR managers surveyed expect people analytics to become more important and will enjoy high priority in their company over the next five years and will be one of the recruiting trends in 2020. Data-driven decisions in human resources will finally become the standard.

3. Internal recruiting: positions are more often filled internally

There are many undiscovered talents in their own workforce, but very few companies systematically tap into this pool. If positions have been filled internally in the past, it is usually because the employees willing to change made their own efforts to do so. That is currently changing, because internal recruiting is increasingly becoming the focus of human resources. 73 percent say that this form of recruiting is currently gaining in importance in their company. With good reason this is one of the recruiting trends: Companies that fill many positions internally strengthen employee retention. On average, employees stay loyal to them 41 percent longer than companies in which internal recruitment plays a smaller role.

4. Multi generational Workforce: Boomer and Generation Z work together

Because people retire later and young people start working earlier, the age spectrum in companies is becoming ever wider. Companies must therefore now create the conditions so that this circumstance does not become an obstacle to successful cooperation - but an opportunity. More experienced employees can pass on their knowledge to younger generations, and young professionals can bring in new ideas. 89 percent of the HR staff surveyed believe that a multi-generational workforce makes the company more successful.
