Understanding the Designing Process

Before a new product is released to consumers, it always starts with designing; which is usually from the basic concept until it gets to actualization. Building the prototype for a product is an essential part of making the idea real and usually one of the most difficult processes to get on with. It is always difficult because it determines if the product will be worthy of investment or not.

Graphic designers can help to present the product ideas of companies in simple and understanding designs. Digital product design implies using computers to create product design illustrations and many more.

The designing process

The designing process goes through three phases; analysis, concept, and synthesis. Depending on the product that has to be designed; the concept and synthesis are usually the points of focus. Despite all the back and forth designs that take place, feedback remains key.

Analysis

The phase of analysis requires that the designer accepts the situation and focuses on the project; looking for possible solutions to the existing problem. Putting together resources that could help figure out the perfect solution to the existing problem; which is what the product will be centered on.

Next, the team members need to carry out extensive research; where general and specific data could be drawn. This could involve the use of statistics, questionnaires, and any other helpful data from different sources.

The basic guideline to keep in mind when developing a prototype is simplicity.

Keep the design simple

When coming up with the sample of a product, it is necessary to keep the design simple, especially with digital product design so the prototype doesn’t end up looking cumbersome with repeated connections.

The next step which is probably the most important is the concept.

Concept

The concept phase is where all important things are taken care of and ideas discussed in detail. And it becomes the guide through which the design has to be built. The product must be created to solve the problem.

Coming up with a final product design takes a lot of work more than what people feel and think. It involves several weeks and even months of brainstorming which is handled at the level of the synthesis.

Synthesis

Ideas

The team comes up with ideas and gives out objective opinions with no bias or sentimental judgments. This brainstorming phase involves pondering on several ideas so it could be built to something meaningful.

Select

When the ideas have been sorted out and the few chosen, the team can now come up with a plan to bring the product design to the limelight.

Implementation phase

At the phase of implementation, the prototype is built following the plan and at this stage; the product is becoming an actualization.

Evaluation

This is the final stage and most important before the product can be released to the general public. This phase involves product testing and improvements. But this does not mean the process ends here because if the product fails to serve its mission, new ideas need to be brought up and pondered over.
