The Psychology Of Logo Designing

Kathleen Howell968 13-Nov-2018

Alike every other thing having a psychology behind it logos are considered to be seen with something behind what is visible to the eyes. A logo is not just about shapes, text, icons, and colors that are visible to us but it is about those messages and concepts that are hidden behind those elements. The logo designing where refers to making or creating a logo that could be used to symbolize the organization or maybe the identification of any brand. The psychology of logo design in context to this refers to making the field of logo design to be understood with different aspects that are making the field to be conceptualized.

The psychology of logo designing as stated above is not only about what you bring to the table as a part of visibility but it is about getting the elements of the logo designing to be used in the proper context of the aims that are attached with the logo. The logos could be used to interact with people or communicate something with the target audience. Well, it might not be possible to cover all of the aspects in a single article thus I would cover some of the elements and highlight the psychology that is behind them.

What are colors for in a logo?

You usually see that logos have attractive colors that catch your attention towards the logos. Sparkling colors might make you give the logo a look. They are usually said to be the first impression of the logo on the target audience. Colors should be attractive and the perfect blend of colors is the first thing that designers aim for in a logo but it is not the only case. Colors in logos are also used to symbolize different things. Color logy is the exact word to define the symbolizing through colors. Red such as is the symbol of love but somewhere it is also the symbol for anger and thus how you use it is dependent upon your brand and your concept. A red color in the action game logo could be probably exhibiting the blood shedding that will be shown in the game. I have learned this through a gamer logo maker and thus this was the best example that made me understand how a color could show the characteristics of the brand or product.

How shapes define the characteristics of a company or product?

From the perspective of psychology, shapes are the most relevant thing to define something. Maybe you would have seen the logo of Toyota? You might have thought that it is a big T in the logo but that is not the case here. It is a three oval logo and each oval in that logo has a meaning. These ovals define trust, determination and value deliverance which are the ultimate goals of the company. These shapes are said to have different meanings which is why they are an important element of the psychology of the logo designing. Apart from this what most people understand from shapes in logos is that they provide structure to the logo which is surely another important reason of using the shapes in the logo but it is not the only reason.

What are icons for in the logos?

Icons are not that important in a logo and you can make a logo without an icon but if you need to add some value and symbolic representation to a logo then icons could be one of the best things that could consider for it. Have you seen the logo of Chicago Bulls? You would have seen it as just an amazing logo which is what icons do. They add attractiveness to the logo but the thing that you might not have seen in it would be that it defines the characteristics of a team. Alike bulls the team is said to have a fiery attitude and have the urge to destroy their opponent in the field of play. They have used the icon in their logo to represent this ideology and thus icons are said to define the ideology creatively.

These are only three elements of the logo designing that I have covered in this article and there are still a number of things left behind that would be surely covered in other articles but the important thing here is that you must see a logo with depth and details. The concept hidden behind the colors, shapes, and icons are the actual messages that a designer wants to deliver to the target audience. But if you are designer remember that adding conceptualization to the logos must not become such a priority that it makes the simplicity of the logo to be left behind or it will cost the misconception. Your logo must be simple enough that people should be able to understand it or else it will make you lose the attention of the customers and it will go unnoticed.
