Structure of Site Map in Redesigning Website

Through a Website Redesign, we characteristically demonstrate a user’s designs using a blend of user streams and sitemaps.

Both sitemaps and user streams serve dissimilar purposes, but eventually help a team plan for user behaviour.

Emphasis of sitemap is to structure, how a user will navigate the website and hence, organize those items that need to be included in the main menu, the footer and user streams envision the path taken by a user to complete a task.

Shouldn’t be confused with what we do with wireframes, at this stage, we are immersed on the identification of modules (page sections), not essentially their relationship with other elements on the page. We’re only shaping, what a user will need on a page to complete specific tasks.

Project managers, Web Designers, and Developers all add to these documents, which ultimately, will help the team define how many module sections required to be built for the user to proficiently navigate through the site and eventually convert.

The research and brainstorming executed in the user stream exercise also helps us identify a suggested sitemap or navigation structure.

Sitemap convey not only capture, what will be in a header and footer navigation, it also plunges deep into the URL structure, primary keyword, and SEO title for each page within the navigation.
