How AI changes the world of IoT

The devices at present are more dependent on the internet and less on human involvement. The Internet of Things(IoT) is adapted to connect various devices internally through the internet. This makes it possible to transfer data individually and efficiently through the network. IoT is applied in most applications to make them advanced and available to humans.

The world of IoT is getting smarter. Many businesses are integrating their IoT applications with Artificial Intelligence particularly Machine Learning. The main focus of this integration is to understand data and obtain its insights. Internet of Things is about combining systems and using the data generated by them. Artificial Intelligence is about replicating intelligent behavior in systems of all types.

A large amount of data is generated by IoT devices. This data is only valuable if it generates action and can be applied elsewhere. To make data applicable, it needs to be enhanced with creativity and context. Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things are not just devices that are connected together, rather they are intelligence connected together. In order to understand and interpret the data, AI is essentially necessary. But the question still remains, “How AI changes the world of IoT?”

AI to increase the potential of IoT

It is predicted that by next year the number of devices that will be connected through IoT will be ten times more than the number at present. In general, the usage of IoT is going to get high, but what about the data? IoT creates a lot of data hence, due to the huge amount won’t the efficiency decrease? How will the data be maintained for millions of devices without misplacing them?

Yes, IoT involves a lot of data and many organizations have no clue on how they should probably handle the data. Clearing the data is not an option because the data is the collected information about the organization’s customers or any other necessary transaction details. This information is key to the customers for the organizations. This huge amount of data generated is called big data.

Big data cannot be treated with the usual algorithms nor can it be stored easily. Processing every device’s data is a complex task.

That is the reason why AI is involved with IoT.

Artificial Intelligence plays an important role in the application and deployment of IoT. Many companies have benefitted from the merge of IoT and AI. Significant suppliers of Internet of Things platform software now offer analytics based on Machine Learning which is an integrated AI capability. With the inclusion of Machine Learning in the IoT environment, the intelligence of the systems is increased. This is done by predictive analytics, prescriptive analytics, and adaptive or continuous analytics to answer questions like “what will happen?”, “what should be done?”, and “what are the right measures that are to be taken?” respectively.

With this advancement in technology, there are many use-cases which show how the two wide concepts work together. Let us take a look at businesses and industries that have already implemented this technology and succeeded in cutting costs which in turn generates a better customer experience and opens a door for new models.

Healthcare: In the healthcare industry, the IoT network with Artificial Intelligence can help in improving patient care. The IoT and AI method can aid in predicting diseases, suggesting preventive measures, tracking physical movement, body mass, heart rate, body temperature and give medication by recognizing the health issues and examining the medical history.

Intelligent Devices: At present, the basic things that we use in our day to day life has been integrated with the technology and have given rise to devices like smart TVs, watches, and security systems. Artificial Intelligence can also detect the mood of a person and interpret how the person interacts with objects. Since AI has the ability to sense things, it can make life more comfortable.

Prediction: Artificial Intelligence techniques can help in predicting outcomes more accurately by analyzing past forecasts and the exact outcomes. The data is fed into algorithms which require both quantity and quality. These predictions help scheduling planes and trains depending on the weather forecasts and also help farmers plan appropriate days for farming.

Increasing efficiency: Machine Learning with the help of Artificial Intelligence, learns from collected data to reveal the latest trends and make future predictions. This is done by using predictive analysis and it shows the actual benefits of the Internet of Things in various industries.

Scalability: The Internet of Things can scale data meaning the devices that are connected together share data amongst themselves. In order to extract data from one device, Artificial Intelligence technology is used. The data is then analyzed and summarized before transferring it to other devices. Hence it decreases a large volume of data to a proper amount.

In the future, IoT and Artificial Intelligence will play an important role. It may shortly become uncommon to find the implementation of IoT that does not use AI. There are various factors which are urging the increasing need for new technology in multiple industries. The technology is already being implemented on different levels. Globally recognized organizations like Amazon, Google, Tesla, etc are already exploring the integration of IoT and AI and it is evident that the result is going to be immense.
