5 SIGNIFICANT DISTINCTIONS BETWEEN SEO & SEM?

If you just landed in the world of online marketing, surely you've heard many terms that sound like Icelandic (for not continuing with the topic of Chinese). Probably, if we talk about "leita vél" you stay the same - and us too - but what about SEO or SEM? Neither do these concepts clearly differ?

A few days ago, we defined what SEO is and what SEM is , so it is interesting that you first go through that article to clarify your doubts.

Now that we have some basic notions about both concepts, we are going to ask the question, how is SEO and SEM different?

FREE VS. OF PAYMENT

One of the main differences between SEO and SEM is that the first one is free , the search engine is not paid for the generated clicks. The traffic that arrives at our website does not have any cost, it does not matter if we have 50 visits from search engines or that we have 50,000, it will always be free.

In the SEM, it is paid for each visitor that comes to the web through the published ads. That is, the company will pay Google, or the platform used, for each click on the ads. The more clicks, the more traffic, but also the higher cost. Hire best logo designing companies who can assist you in all digital marketing services.

LONG-TERM RESULTS VS. IMMEDIATE

SEO is an arduous job and needs time and patience to observe results. The necessary time will depend on the sector to which the company is directed and the competence that exists in it. In this case, SEO is a medium / long term strategy .

In contrast, the SEM shows short-term results , the campaigns are configured and published instantly, so that traffic is generated to the web from the first minute. In addition, the SEM is totally controllable, at any time we can decide to bet on other keywords, pause our campaigns in case we do not have more stock of a product ... all these actions can be managed in real time and the changes have an immediate execution .

On the other hand, in SEO many of these factors escape us, if we run out of stock of a product users will continue to arrive at our website, even if they can not acquire the product. This does not have to be a point against SEO, remember that we are not paying for each visitor we receive and this user may end up buying another product.

LASTING IN TIME VS. ONLY WHILE PAYING

As we saw in the previous step, SEO work requires more time, but it is also true that its results last longer . This work must be constant, always seeking to improve, include new keywords, generate new content, achieve new links ... to maintain and improve the position we occupy. If we do this constant work we will be in a good position for a while, unless we suffer a penalty from Google, or our competition exceeds us.

On the other hand, in SEM , when we stop paying, our website will no longer appear on the results page. We will only be visible if we pay , in case of not doing so, the link to our website will not be shown.

NO POSSIBILITY OF SEGMENTATION VS. LOCAL SEGMENTATION

The SEO does not allow us to segment locally . We can only carry out a local segmentation based on the keywords, including in these the name of our city or locality. Although this is a true medium since, increasingly, Google offers local results, depending on our location.

In SEM we can select the cities in which we want our campaigns to be shown, carry out more investments in certain places, so we can direct 100% the investment to the places where we find our potential customers.

IT IS MANAGED DIRECTLY FROM YOUR WEBSITE VS. FROM AN EXTERNAL TOOL

Most SEO work is done directly from your website . All improvements and optimizations are implemented on the website.

In contrast, the work of SEM is carried out through an external tool , usually Google AdWords. In general, we do not need to make any changes to our website.

These are the main differences between SEO and SEM, two strategies that can help your business grow through the Internet. Both present good opportunities and have a very good performance to generate more traffic to your website. And now, do you have it a little clearer?
