Is Technology Really Developing Education System? A Reality Check(13 Points)

Chris Evans1106 09-Jul-2019

Year 2035, The Technology Has Invaded The World. The world is conquered by robots and they are ruling over us. And everybody is regretting why they chose robots as manpower over human beings. And then.....Then!!!

I Woke Up!!!

Scary? Yes, it is!

But it will not take longer to turn to a reality if the technology is not used in a controlled manner. “I’ll keep you safe in my people’s zoo”, this line is said by a robot (created using artificial intelligence) during an interview.

My intentions here are not to stop technology from developing. Obviously, technology today has provided us many privileges and made our lives easier. And now we have extended technological application to the education sector also. It helped us in various ways but is creating many hindrances too. To make my stand clear on what I am saying, here’s a list of 13 drawbacks which technology has on the education sector.

13 Drawbacks of Technology in Education Sector

1.Huge Expenditure:

Installation of new technologies in the schools and colleges require a hefty amount, that is paid by educational institutes. Plus, the cost of managing and keeping this technology updated requires a huge sum of money. It indirectly puts the burden on students in the form of high fees.

2.Distractions:

Technology is a big distraction for students. Students often access other services online (like Facebook and other social media sites) instead of learning and all this creates a huge gap between students and their education.

3.Cyber Bullying:

With the new technology, comes new problems. Students have easy access to various sites that tends them to enter into the dark world of harassment. Only proper rules and clear boundaries will solve this problem.

4.Easy to Cheat:

Technology has facilitated cheating like no other thing. It has made cheating easy and fast, with just a click of the mouse. A way to counter this problem is, providing assignments which require an individual perspective and logical reasoning instead of memorising.

5.Loss of Data:

Computer is a machine and often faces malfunction due to its wear and tear. Loss of data is an issue often faced by many students. For example, you have to submit your assignment tomorrow and suddenly at last night, you see your laptop is not working. At this situation, you’ll be stuck and will have no option but to take online assignment help. Truly a saviour in this situation.

6.Unreliable Sources:

Internet is an ocean of resources and knowledge. But at times it happens that students do not check the reliability of websites providing the information. They should always learn from trusted websites like Wikipedia, Udemy, Coursera, etc.

7.Privacy Issues:

There is no way to eliminate the issue of privacy completely from technology. Exposing students to these technology puts their privacy at risk. Their access to various sites increases these kinds of risks.

8.Difficult to Understand:

Technology keeps on upgrading and developing every day, and it becomes difficult for the teachers to be up-to-date with it. Hiring an extra technical expert for this problem increases expenses.

9.No Real World Access:

In the name of making students technologically updated, educators are making them disconnected from the real world. It makes them anti-social and they get comfortable of screen, words and emojis. To overcome this, technology should be used only as a tool in the classroom and not as a component of the learning process.

10.Burden on Students:

Huge expenditure which technology demands from educational institutes ultimately puts the burden on students. It puts many students at a disadvantage. They have to pay more money for the same quality of education.

11.Fewer Jobs:

Teachers may never become obsolete but technology in the classroom can do most of their work. They may end up being observers. With advancements, many software and applications are coming in the market which has in-build teaching mechanisms.

12.Medical Issues:

Staring at screens can cause various eye problems to students. It puts them at risk of suffering diseases like myopia and computer vision syndrome. Apart from this, some common problems like irritation, fatigue or blurred visions can also occur.

13.Increases Dependency:

Technology is making students more dependent for basic actions too like calculations can be solved in mind but advancements make students lazy. Their ability to create ideas and think about the solutions is also decreasing.

Threw Your iPad? Not My Mistake Buddy!!!

The only intention behind this article was to make people aware of the fast pace we’re moving towards technologies. It has no rules and restrictions yet and before my nightmare turns into reality we humans have to behave like humans.

That’s all from my side folks!!!

Have a Good Day!!!
