The new James Bond video game, 007 First Light, officially launched on May 27, 2026. Developed and published by IO Interactive (the creators of the Hitman franchise) in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios, this title marks the first mainline entry in the James Bond gaming franchise in 14 years.

Game Overview & Storyline

  • The Concept: It features a completely reimagined origin story. Players control a 26-year-old James Bond. He begins as a rebellious Royal Navy air crewman recruited into MI6's newly revived Double-0 training program.
  • The Plot: Bond must hunt down a rogue 00 agent and stop a conspiracy threatening the heart of the State alongside his reluctant mentor, John Greenway.
  • Star-Studded Cast: Irish actor Patrick Gibson voices James Bond. He is supported by Lennie James as mentor John Greenway, Priyanga Burford as M, and Lenny Kravitz as the villain, Pirate King Bawma.

Gameplay Mechanics

Drawing heavily from IO Interactive’s stealth legacy, the game acts as an open-ended spy sandbox offering four core ways to handle objectives:

  • Stealth: Blending into crowds, pickpocketing, and eavesdropping.
  • Instinctive Action: Tricking guards, bluffing, and navigating traps.
  • Q-Branch Gadgets: Essential tools like hacking lighters, quiet laser pens, and a specialized Q-Watch.
  • Aggression & Set Pieces: Visceral brawls, intense gunplay, and high-speed Aston Martin Valhalla car chases.
  • Replayability: A post-campaign "Tactical Simulation" (TacSim) mode unlocks special challenge modifiers for completed missions.

Cinematic Sound & Performance

  • Official Theme: The official title sequence features a theme song named "First Light", written and performed by Lana Del Rey alongside legendary Bond composer David Arnold.
  • Visual Tech: Built on the Glacier engine, the PC version launched with NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 frame generation. Full path-tracing and ray reconstruction updates are scheduled for later this summer.

Supported Platforms & Pricing

The game is currently available across major platforms, with a staggered release for Nintendo:

  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store). A Nintendo Switch 2 version is scheduled for release later in Summer 2026.
  • Standard Edition: Retails for $69.99.
  • Deluxe Edition: Priced at $79.99. It includes bonus character outfits (such as the Gentleman Operator) and premium weapon/gadget cosmetics.
