WhatsApp Users on iPhone May Lose Ability to Screenshot Profile Photos Soon
Following a big UI revamp and the introduction of AI features, Meta continues to test new features on WhatsApp, and the business is presently testing a feature that stops iPhone users from capturing screenshots of a user's profile photo to further safeguard its customers' privacy.
Highlights:
- Meta tests new WhatsApp feature to prevent iPhone users from capturing profile photo screenshots.
- The feature aims to enhance privacy by blocking screenshot capture of profile images.
- It will be activated by default and is expected to roll out to stable users in the coming weeks.
According to WABetaInfo, this functionality is already present in the newest WhatsApp beta for iOS (number 24.10.10.70), which can be loaded using the TestFlight app. This functionality is already available on the Android platform, where when a user attempts to snap a photo of their profile image, it reads, "This app does not allow screenshots."
When an iPhone user attempts to take a screenshot of the profile image, WhatsApp will display "Screenshot capture blocked" and "To protect everyone's privacy on WhatsApp, this screenshot has been blocked."
WhatsApp also allows users to choose who can and cannot see their profile pictures, as well as conceal them from unknown numbers. The next upgrade would allow users to see a public profile image on WhatsApp but restrict them from taking a copy of it.
This functionality will be activated by default and cannot be removed, and it is scheduled to be made accessible to stable users in the next few weeks.
