WhatsApp has introduced Channels, an Instagram-like feature that allows users to receive updates from people and organizations within the messaging app. The app offers privacy, reactions, and forwarding capabilities. It is now adding Channel alerts and testing a reply feature. Beta users on Android are receiving the 2.23.20.9 update, which includes a new feature designed to keep channel creators informed about channel status, especially when closed in specific countries.

WhatsApp has implemented a new policy to restrict access to certain content within specific regions due to local laws. The platform will notify channel creators if their visibility is restricted in a specific country, preventing users with phone numbers associated with that country from accessing or following the restricted channel.

Response to Channel update

WhatsApp is working on a new feature allowing followers to reply to channel updates in a future update. The feature will include a reply indicator next to the reaction bubble, indicating the number of replies a channel update has received. Similar to the Channels app, this feature will also offer added privacy, ensuring users' phone numbers are protected when replying to a channel update.

Why is it significant?

The feature will enhance discussion features in channels, allowing users to interact with their followers. It will enable active participation in channel conversations, allowing followers to share their thoughts and opinions, making it a new platform for discussing channel content.
