Twitter shall be charging a fee of $20 per account for verification
Elon Musk announced in a tweet on Sunday, only days after taking control of one of the most significant social media platforms in the world, that Twitter will change its user verification procedure.
Two people with knowledge of the situation said that Twitter is considering charging for the coveted blue check mark proving the identity of the account holder. This information was first reported on Sunday by technology newsletter Platformer.
Users who want to keep their 'confirmed' badges would have to pay $4.99 per month for Twitter Blue if the initiative is approved. Platformer asserts that verification will very certainly be incorporated into Twitter Blue, despite the fact that the project may still be put on hold as the CEO of Tesla Inc. has not made a final decision.
Twitter Blue, the first subscription service on the site, was unveiled in June of the previous year. With a monthly membership, it offers 'exclusive access to premium services,' such as the capacity to modify tweets. Additionally, Musk's insistence on running a Twitter poll in April to determine the preferences of his tens of millions of followers led to the availability of the option to edit tweets earlier this month. Nearly 70% of the votes were in favour.
According to staff personnel with knowledge of the matter, the billionaire has also requested that logged-out users who visit Twitter's website be directed to the Explore tab, which shows trending tweets.
