Netflix to Start Charging Fee during Password Sharing as 100 Million People use the Service for Free
Netflix being one of the most popular video streaming services has reported that the company has been constantly losing a large number of subscribers. Well, the exact reason is still unknown behind such situation but Netflix have believed that password sharing would be one of the main reasons for its flagging user growth. During the first quarter, it has been noticed that Netflix had lost almost 2 lakh users and therefore, it could be predicted that the service would lose around 2 million more in the second quarter, if such situation continues to be the same.

According to Netflix, over 100 million households have been using the services for free as people have been sharing passwords with other users as a result of which it is affecting their business financially. Due to such a reason Netflix had recently launched a test in few regions and had started charging users for sharing their Netflix account passwords. Later, it has expanded the reach of the test to more regions to overcome such losses.
One of a report has mentioned that users who are primarily based in five Latin America countries now need to pay an extra amount if their account would be used in an additional home or device. People who all live in Argentina, Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic would now have to pay extra if they share their Netflix account’s password..
Well, the user definitely would be able to use Netflix at their home and even be able to watch it while they would be traveling, but if they try to share it with any of their friend or people outside their household, then they would be charged a fee. Netflix has clearly mentioned that if a user’s account would be found to be utilized by multiple households for over two weeks, then it would send an in-app notification asking them to pay extra. The extra home would cost around $2.99 (Rs. 240) in some countries.
