Prime Minister Narendra Modi Inaugurated India's First 5G Testbed at Silver Jubilee Celebration
Prime Minister Narendra Modi including several ministers inaugurated India’s first 5G Testbed today at TRAI’s Silver Jubilee Celebration. The Testbed was developed by the collaboration of multiple institutes.

PM Modi states the importance of such technology and how it will boost the ability of self-reliance of the country.
Narendra Modi has inaugurated the country’s first 5G testbed to enable startup and industry players to test and validate their products at the local level and reduce dependence on foreign facilities. The whole setup of the testbed was done in around Rs. 200 crore.
While attending the celebration of Silver Jubilee Celebration of the TRAI, PM said the 5G testbed is an important step toward making our country self-reliant in the direction of critical and modern technologies.
He further said “I invite youth friends, researchers and companies to utilise the testing facility for making 5G technology,” Modi said.
Under the collaboration of eight institutes which was led by IIT Madras, The 5G testbed has been developed. During the absence of such technology in the country, many industry players and other startups were required to go abroad to test and validate their products for installation in a 5G network.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India was established in 1997 under the act of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India 1997. Currently, the testbed facility will be only provided in 5 different locations.
The universities which were involved in the project are IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IISc Bangalore, Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering & Research (SAMEER), and the Centre of Excellence in Wireless Technology.
