
WhatsApp Desktop Beta Starts Testing the Capability to Freeze Voice Mail Recordings

On the desktop version of WhatsApp, a feature that allows users to pause and restart voice recordings is being developed. The ability to preview voice notes before sending them was recently added to the instant messaging service. The option to pause and restart voice recordings while they are being played in a chat is now being tested in the newest beta version of WhatsApp Desktop. The function is now accessible on WhatsApp for iOS, however it has yet to be added to WhatsApp for Android.

WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo discovered a new stop button in the newest beta version of WhatsApp Desktop. Users who have recorded a voice note can utilise the stop-and-resume feature to halt and resume playing while reviewing their recording. Users will then have the option of either discarding or continuing the recording. The pause button has taken the position of the previous stop button, which required the user to listen to the complete voice recording from start to finish.

The functionality is now being tested on WhatsApp Desktop beta 2.2201.2, according to WABetaInfo, based on user reports of the feature rolling out on the most recent beta version. The stop button appears to work, but the feature tracker warns that it may take some time for beta testers' accounts to be enabled. The option to halt voice notes after recording them was added to WhatsApp for iOS in beta version 2.21.230.16 in October 2021, but the Meta-owned messaging service has yet to add the capability to the WhatsApp beta for Android handsets.

In the meanwhile, WhatsApp just launched an in-app help option that had been trialled briefly last year. Users will be able to get help via a conversation with a verified WhatsApp account, which is currently in beta testing. The capability was discovered in a recent WhatsApp beta version for iOS and Android, and it is likely to be sent out to users at a later date. According to the feature tracker, WhatsApp is also testing new animations for heart emoji to match the red heart animated emoji on the newest WhatsApp beta version 22.2.72 for iOS users.
