I’m trying to understand what state the Responses API keeps between calls. If I send a fresh request without a previous_response_id and don’t include the earlier messages myself, should I expect the model to know anything about that conversation?

I’m especially curious whether there are differences between a new request in the same app session and a completely separate API call. How are others handling conversation state between requests without accidentally relying on context that isn’t there?
