When a Perplexity answer puts a citation after a sentence containing several facts, I’m not always sure which parts the source supports. A sentence might combine a product’s release date, its price, and a claim about availability, while the linked page only clearly mentions one of those details.
For people who use it for research, what is your process for checking Perplexity citations without turning every short answer into a full manual investigation?
- Do you ask for one factual claim per sentence with a separate citation?
- Do you request a short supporting quotation from each source and then verify it on the page?
- How do you handle a citation when the relevant text is no longer visible or the page has changed?
I’m less concerned about the number of links than about claim-level citation verification. Is there a prompting approach that makes this easier to audit, even if it doesn’t remove the need to open the sources?
