I’m using the OpenAI API with a JSON schema, and most responses parse cleanly. The awkward cases are fields that are allowed to be optional: sometimes they’re absent, sometimes they appear as null, and downstream code treats those differently.

How are people handling structured output validation in production? Do you normalize the response after parsing, or make the schema require every key and represent “no value” explicitly?
