In the novel, Beloved, the author has used different colors to describe the reactions of some of the main characters involved. Different colors represent many things in the book. The point is that the slaves got free and they found out that world is a lot more than just black and white around them. They could sense the freedom around them. The red color has been used to represent the daughter of Sethe. Mainly, red color represents any sort of blood coming out of humans or animals body. But in this novel, this blood has been directly related to the one which comes out of Beloved's throat when it was cut.

The red color is symbolized in various ways in the novel Beloved. It has been used to represent the symbols of life and the vibrancy which has been in the characters life. As red color is vibrant it also symbolizes the pain and death also. "Every dawn she saw the dawn, but never acknowledged or remarked its color. There was something wrong with that. It was as though one day she saw red baby blood, another day the pink gravestone chips, and that was the last of it" (Cutter, Martha J. 50).

The red color has been used here for fearing of death and liveliness in humans life. (Mathieson. 7) The desire has been shown for red color as many of the characters in Beloved have expressed their self-desired for birth, life or different emotions.

You can choose research topics to write your paper about.

It is clearly seen that red color has been used in this novel for various different things. So, you cannot just stick to one meaning but what you can take from this is that this color is something that usually shows desires. So, whatever has been mentioned along with this color is either not possible to take in or something that characters thought could happen but seemed impossible.
