What is PRP hair loss therapy?

PRP injections are used since the 1980s to treat problems like healing injured muscles, tendons, and ligaments. PRP or Palette Rich Plasma is a three-step medical hair loss treatment in which a person’s blood is firstly drawn, then processed, and then injected into his scalp. PRP injections help in natural hair growth by increasing the blood supply to the hair follicle and the thickness of the hair shaft.

What is the process of PRP hair loss therapy?

As discussed, PRP treatment is a 3-way process that takes around 3-6 weeks. Here are the steps involved in this treatment:

Step 1: drawing of blood:

Firstly the blood is drawn from the person’s body parts like arms, legs, etc., and then is put into a centrifuge i.e., a machine that spins rapidly to separate fluids of different densities.

Step 2: Separation of blood fluids:

Blood is spun into a centrifuge for about 10 minutes after that blood separates into three different layers known as:

• Red blood corpuscles

• Platelet-poor plasma

• Platelet-rich plasma

Step 3: injection of plasma into the scalp:

Out of three layers, platelet-rich plasma is further drawn into the PRP syringe and injected into the areas of the scalp that requires hair growth.

PRP has shown excellent results in various cases, but still, studies are going on to prove the effectiveness of this treatment.

Side effects of PRP Hair loss treatments:

PRP Treatment is 100% safe from infectious diseases and infections because your blood is used to inject into your scalp. Still, there are some side effects of this treatment you must know:

• Infection due to syringe

• Injury to blood vessels or nerves due to syringe

• Tissue scars

• Calcification at the points of injection.

There are few chances where the patient could have an adverse reaction due to the usage of the anesthesia in the therapy. So, it’s better to talk to your doctor about your tolerance to anesthesia before getting PRP treatment.

Are there any risks related to PRP therapy?

Make sure to inform your doctor regarding your medical history and the medications you are using to treat them. Many of the doctors will ask you to avoid this treatment in the following conditions:

• If you are on blood thinners.

• If you are a heavy smoker.

• Take alcohol or have any drug abuse history.

You are not applicable for the treatment if you have any of the below given medical conditions:

• Platelet dysfunction syndromes

• Acute or chronic infections

• Thyroid

• Hemodynamic instability

Cancer

• Chronic liver disease

• Chronic skin disease

• Any metabolic disorder

• Sepsis

• Low platelet count

• Any systematic disorder

• Hypofibrinogenemia

Conclusion:

PRP hair loss treatments are quite costly, and many health insurance companies do not cover any of the costs related to this treatment. There are various other options like a healthy diet, daily exercise routine, and medications like Rogaine and Propecia, which you need to take along with hair transplant surgery to avoid PRP Treatments. Still, various researches are going on to prove the effectiveness of this treatment; however; many people believe it is a safe and secure way to regain their hair. Talk to your consultant and choose the best for you.
