Roundup 2021: Indian Spacetech Industry Headline Makers
The Indian space technology sector has gone a long way from its inception in 1969, when Vikram Sarabhai founded the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
According to PwC reports, the space business was worth $7 billion in 2019. This amounted to 2% of the worldwide space industry. Late last year, the Indian Government's Department of Space produced a draught describing the new space rules. The proposal relaxed laws pertaining to private companies in the space technology industry, allowing independent space tech businesses to expand and prosper in the Indian ecosystem.
Until recently, private sector firms served as subcontractors to ISRO, making it impossible for independent players to operate outside of the state sector. The most recent legislation permits private enterprises or startups to develop and manage satellite systems that provide communication capacity.
ISRO IN QUANTAM RESEARCH :
ISRO reported its big achievement in March of this year, proving free-space Quantum Communication across 300 metres. The news of unconditionally secure satellite data communication using quantum technologies made global headlines, with India joining the ranks of developed nations such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Japan, and China in making significant contributions to the field of quantum computing.
CHANDRAYAAN 2 :
During the session, ISRO Chairman K Sivan distributed the Chandrayaan-2 data product and science documents. In addition, he revealed eight payloads. The following papers have been made available to the general public:
The Chandrayaan-2 Mission Handbook of Chandrayaan-2 Payloads Data and Science produced scientific discoveries.
Payloads and Data Products for the Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter
COLLAB WITH ONEWEB :
OneWeb, backed by Bharti, established a partnership with ISRO's commercial subsidiary NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) to launch satellites. The orbit satellite communications firm became the first commercial entity to launch satellites from India as a result of this. OneWeb will launch the satellites in 2022 utilising NSIL's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-MkIII).
At the launch of the Indian Space Association (ISpA), OneWeb signed a non-binding Letter of Intent with NSIL, and it is already developing its initial constellation of 648 LEO satellites.
SANJAI BHARGAV JOINED IN SPACEX
Sanjay Bhargava, a business coach and evangelist, revealed in September that he will be joining Elon Musk's SpaceX in October. Bhargava is presently the Starlink Country Director for India. As a result, SpaceX's satellite broadband unit, Starlink, is optimistic about launching internet services in India this month.
Bhargava cited SpaceX's goal of having two lakh terminals operational across the country by the end of this month in a LinkedIn post. However, if it does not gain clearance from the Indian government, the real numbers may fluctuate or possibly be zero.
GOOD MAP FACILITIES
MapmyIndia, an Indian IT business responsible for creating digital map data, telematics services, GIS AI technologies, and location-based SaaS, announced a collaboration with ISRO to provide indigenous mapping platform and geospatial services. As part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Initiative, this was done.
The program's major goal was to merge digital maps and related technologies with ISRO's satellite imagery archive and earth observation data to provide hyper-local mapping solutions. According to the solution, it will offer information on population, weather, natural catastrophes, land usage, and agricultural production.
