Answer:
Inherit from Exception and add custom properties if needed.

public class InvalidOrderException : Exception {
    public InvalidOrderException(string msg) : base(msg) { }
}

Throw using:

throw new InvalidOrderException("Order ID is invalid.");

Always include Serializable and override constructor if exception will cross AppDomains.
