Does Claude Code keep up with a repository after I switch Git branches?

Ruslan Galiev 48 21 Oct 2026

When I use Claude Code on a repository, then switch branches in another terminal, I’m not sure how confidently it picks up the changed files. Does it refresh its view of the working tree automatically, or can it keep reasoning from files it saw before the branch change?

I’m trying to avoid asking for a code review or edit based on stale context. Do you restart the session, explicitly point Claude at changed files, or use another workflow when moving between branches?
