A paper can still appear in search results and be discussed in older articles after a correction or retraction. Before using Perplexity to build a reading list, I want a way to check the current publication status of the papers it finds.
The distinction I want to preserve
A minor correction, an expression of concern, and a retraction should not all become “this study is unreliable.” Equally, an accessible copy of the original paper shouldn’t be treated as proof that nothing has changed.
How would you structure a request for research paper status checks? Should I provide DOIs and ask Perplexity to look for linked publisher notices, or is there a better way to handle preprints and journal versions that have different titles?
I’d like the output to include the notice type, its date, and a link to the notice itself. The difficult part is the negative result: when no notice is found, how can I tell whether the relevant sources were checked or the search simply missed it?
