I’m trying to keep a Claude app’s system prompt and reference material reasonably current without losing the benefit of prompt caching. If I make a small edit to the system prompt, does that invalidate the cached prefix, or can unchanged sections still be reused?

For anyone who has measured this in production: how do you structure prompts that get occasional updates, and is the cache behavior predictable enough to plan around?
