I had to prepare a Word document containing some old Gmail conversations, but the problem was that I didn't need my complete mailbox. I only needed emails exchanged between January and March for a particular project. Initially, I thought I would have to open each email individually, copy its contents into Word, and then organize everything manually. That would have taken a lot of time because there were quite a few messages in the account.
I tried the RecoveryTools Gmail to Word Converter Tool, and the filtering option made the task much easier. After signing in with my Gmail account, I selected the folders containing the relevant emails and went to the filter settings. There was a Date Range option where I could specify the beginning and ending dates. This meant I didn't have to process the entire mailbox just to get the emails from those three months. The software also supports DOC/DOCX as saving options.
I selected the required date range and chose Word as the output format. I also had the option to select a specific destination instead of mixing the converted files with my other documents.
This was useful because my Gmail account contained several years of emails, while the Word documents I needed were related to only one particular period. Instead of manually searching through the mailbox and copying individual messages, I could narrow down the data first and then export the required emails.
For anyone dealing with a large Gmail mailbox, I think this type of date filter is particularly useful. It turns the task from “find and convert hundreds of emails” into “select the period I actually need and export those emails.”
Gmail doesn’t have a built-in option to export a date-range search directly to a Word document, but you can find the messages first and then print or copy them into Word.
Find emails from the dates you need
Enter a search like
after:2025/03/01 before:2025/04/01in Gmail’s search bar. This finds messages from March 2025. Replace the dates with your range; setbefore:to the day after your final date. You can add a sender or subject to narrow the results, for example:after:2025/03/01 before:2025/04/01 from:alex@example.com.Move the emails into Word
Gmail doesn’t offer a native Gmail bulk-to-Word export for all messages in search results, so a large batch may take some manual work. Attachments are not embedded in the printed email; download those separately if you need them.
