The fundamental concepts in Artificial Intelligence study Weak AI and Strong AI that describe the extent machines demonstrate human intelligence.
Systems under the category of Weak AI or Narrow AI function by executing one distinct task among many possible tasks. AI systems work within prescribed rules while lacking actual awareness together with natural comprehension and mental self-awareness. The category of weak AI includes voice assistance technologies as well as streaming platform recommendation engines and virtual chat platforms. Such systems replicate human behaviors in specific operational fields through programmed algorithms although they lack human-level understanding capability.
Theoretical Strong AI operates under the name of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) while remaining a conceptual idea. Strong artificial intelligence seeks to create machines which possess capabilities for understanding and learning knowledge that enables them to execute diverse functions practically like humans do. The theoretical design of Strong AI includes the ability to make logical decisions and solve previously unknown challenges as well as the ability to adapt to new environments with potential features of consciousness and self-awareness. Scientists and researches today target strong AI development but they have not yet succeeded in its creation.
The main separation arises from their operational domains and performance capabilities. Weak AI operates within specified tasks whereas Strong AI functions as an intelligent system that mimics human-level thinking abilities.
Most AI applications function with weak AI because it performs specialized tasks without attaining genuine comprehension. Strong AI exists theoretically because it would enable computers to think and reason similarly to humans through adaptable sophisticated intelligence.
