Among the leading sex associated problems among men, today is Erectile Dysfunction. This is an erectile failure condition in which a man is unable to achieve and maintain an erection long enough for satisfactory sexual intercourse. After sexual stimulation, the brain is able to stimulate hormone production lead to increased blood flow to the penis making it firm causing an erection. With erectile dysfunction, however, blood flow into the penis is limited making it difficult to have and maintain an erection. Erectile dysfunction in men is caused by a combination of various factors that affect the brain, hormone release, nerves, blood vessels and muscles. These can be psychological causes including depression, anxiety, and stress or physical causes such as diseases, various medications and substance abuse including long term use of alcohol.

How does Alcoholism lead to Erectile Dysfunction?

Relationship of Erectile Dysfunction and Alcohol Use

Long term and persistent alcohol use are linked to erectile dysfunction by modulating a number of body functions. Overconsumption of alcohol depresses the nervous system and damages nerves which results in blocking nerve impulses from the brain to the glands secreting the sex hormones and hence blood vessels supplying the penis with blood are inhibited which leads to erectile dysfunction.

During the normal erectile function, blood flow to the penis after an erection is inhibited from flowing back by the closure of the blood vessels which help in maintaining an erection. In prolonged alcohol use, however, the blood vessels are caused to expand than normal which causes blood to flow to the penis but the closure of the vessels to maintain an erection is inhibited since they are damaged due to over expanding.

Overconsumption of alcohol also impairs behavior which results in reduced sexual desire reducing brain stimulation that leads to an erection. Physical movement is also impaired as a result of alcohol use which inhibits sex performance. Alcoholism also results in reduced testosterone hormone production, a sex hormone associated with increased sexual drive and as a result, reducing sexual desire and erection which together reduce sex performance.

Alcohol consumption is also associated with smoking of cigarettes which in turn leads to atherosclerosis where blood vessels are narrowed and hardened preventing the proper flow of blood to the penis which leads to an impaired erection. Another effect of excessive alcohol usage is that it leads to ejaculation that occurs immediately after penetration, delayed or absence of ejaculation and delayed or complete absence of orgasm. Finally, it leads to increased urine production which causes body dehydration. This results in a reduced amount of blood in the body which in turn reduces erection and sexual insensitivity.

Treatment of Alcohol-Related Erectile Dysfunction

Various treatment options are available for erectile dysfunction, which include the use of oral pills such as avanafil, tadalafil, vardenafil and sildenafil that are Phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors affecting guanosine monophosphate breakdown. They work by increasing blood flow to the penis improving erectile function. However, they are associated with side effects such as muscle cramps, headache and indigestion. It also involves the use of dermal formulations of testosterone hormone therapy together with oral pills which result in improved erectile function.

Finally, the use of injections of Prostaglandin E1 medication known as alprostadil that is injected either as an intracavernosal injection or by urethra injections is also recommended. This results in penile erection a maximum of 30 minutes after injection. Alprostadil medication is also given in the form of pellets that are placed in the urethra. This helps in restoring erectile function. However, alprostadil injections are associated with prolonged erections that occur even after orgasm and the use of pelleted medication are associated with a burning sensation in the penile area.

Where to Buy Erectile Dysfunction Medication

Erectile dysfunction medications can be obtained by purchasing physically from pharmacies or from online stores after a prescription. Online stores are preferable as they are safe, easier, cheaper and the delivery is done wherever you want it. They also offer anonymity for users who wish to conceal their identity for personal reasons. However, online scams do exist and in order to avoid being a victim of scams it is important to:

• Check the legitimacy of the online pharmacy.

• Check the prescription of the drug if it is correct as prescribed.

• Ensure that you are in contact with a licensed pharmacist who will dispatch the drugs.

• Consider the price of the medication as it should not be too cheap.

It is important to overcome erectile dysfunction in order to have a better sex life, satisfaction and good health. This can be done by regular exercising, eating well, avoiding substance use, proper hydration and counseling.
