The goal of the initiative is to accelerate the integration of AI into the military's decision-making process, enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of military operations.

The United States is not the only country investing in AI for military use. China and Russia have also made significant strides in AI technology and its military application. The United States government recognizes the need to remain competitive in this area and is investing in AI technology to ensure that it remains a leader in military capabilities.

The JAIC NMI for military use of AI is divided into five focus areas:

  2. Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR)
  3. Cyber Operations
  4. Decision Support
  5. Mission Planning
